Recurring revenue

MRR calculator

Normalize monthly and annual subscriptions into monthly recurring revenue, with an annualized run rate and a formula you can check.

Your inputs

Starts with illustrative data. Calculations happen in this page; input values are not submitted by this calculator.

Total recurring charges for one month, after your chosen discounts.

Total annual recurring contract value for currently active annual subscriptions.

Monthly recurring revenue

12,500

Annualized run rate

150,000

Amounts use the same currency as your inputs.

The calculation

MRR = monthly recurring revenue + annual recurring revenue ÷ 12

Rounded for display. Read the assumptions below before comparing this result with your billing system.

What this number includes

  • Use one currency and the same snapshot date for both inputs.
  • Exclude tax, free plans, trials, one-time fees, and usage-based charges. This simplified tool covers monthly and annual billing only.
  • Apply a consistent discount and delinquency policy. Stripe includes active and past-due subscriptions; your finance team may choose a different definition.
  • Annualized run rate is MRR × 12. It is not recognized revenue, cash collected, or a forecast.

Definition reference: Stripe Billing: analytics and MRR definitions. Methodology reviewed September 15, 2026.

A worked example

Illustrative example: 10,000 in monthly subscriptions plus 30,000 in annual subscriptions produces 12,500 MRR and a 150,000 annualized run rate.

Is annual cash collected the same as MRR?

No. A 1,200 annual recurring subscription contributes 100 per month in this calculation. Cash timing and accounting revenue recognition are different measures.

Why might this differ from my billing dashboard?

Discounts, past-due subscriptions, trial dates, currency conversion, and usage-based billing can change the definition. Reconcile those policies before comparing results.
